In 2019, when Anson approached Black Steel Mobile in search of an administration role, he immediately impressed with his desire to learn and improve his skillset. His obvious work ethic and attention to detail were a perfect fit with Black Steel’s company values which focus on integrity and client satisfaction and we willingly placed him in a trainee estimator role. Three years later, Anson was named a finalist in the SCNZ (Steel Construction New Zealand) 2022 Young Achiever of the Year Award.

To provide the fabricated steelwork for a complex and ambitious renovation and extension of an historic Auckland villa and its conversion from a residential to a commercial building. The project involved lifting the existing villa, adding a basement underneath and an extension to the rear, before lowering the villa into its new position.

2021 – SCNZ Young Achiever of the Year – Finalist Louis Sundar

Louis Sundar’s contribution to Black Steel Mobile Ltd goes beyond the excellent work he does; it’s his attitude which fully embodies the company’s values, that significantly impacts our entire team.

Louis, despite living with cerebral palsy which affects the use of his legs, is courageous with a give-it-a-go attitude that is infectious. He never backs away from a challenge. His characteristically positive attitude and drive led him to apply for, then take ownership of, a role at Black Steel Mobile earning his way to an apprenticeship. Within a short time, Louis’s skillset had grown to a point where he was taking the lead on the majority of our Group Housing steel projects, a sector that demands precision and works to strict time deadlines.

2021 SCNZ Annual Awards – Structural Under $500K – Finalist Academy for Gifted Education

The Academy for Gifted Education project is a complex, architecturally designed education facility in Takapuna on Auckland’s North Shore.

The new building is a two-level, self-supporting structure located with precision in a restrictive space between two existing buildings to support the striking geometry that resembles a conical section. Early contractor involvement ensured a collaborative and successful design process.
