2021 – SCNZ Apprentice of the Year – Finalist Travis Paranihi

Travis stands out from many other apprentices we’ve worked with because of his incredible work ethic, his fabrication skills, and his determination to complete every job to the highest possible standard. In a world where many live by a “she’ll be right” attitude to tasks, Travis is exemplary in so many ways.

From his first day, Travis has impressed us with his approach to work and his willingness to learn. He is now a confident and qualified steel fabricator – the first of our team to have completed his apprenticeship with Black Steel Mobile Ltd.

Every task assigned to Travis, he completes with a single-minded focus to get the job done and to get it done right. Whether it’s a steel beam installation, a new welding qualification, a site-based project or the study required to complete his apprenticeship, every assignment is undertaken with a clear focus on completion and with a desire to use the metal crafting skills he obviously possesses.

Further to this, Travis has a spotless health and safety record to complement his excellent punctuality and reliability. He is self-motivated and has already shown great leadership and decision-making skills. His ability to see issues with a project and come up with ways of solving them have been demonstrated.

The degree to which we value Travis and the faith that we have in his skills is clearly shown in that, for the last year of his apprenticeship, we placed him in a sole-charge role on a number of site fabrication / installation projects. As a team, the crew at Black Steel Mobile are in no way surprised that Travis is a finalist in the Apprentice of the Year Award.
